A graduate of the Faculty of Painting and Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, Joanna Zastróżna lives between Sopot and Sidi Ifni, Morocco. Her work is held in collections including the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw and the Museum of Art in Łódź, and has been published in the Paris edition of Le Monde diplomatique.
She began experimenting with the photographic medium in the 1990s, creating series such as Dog, Messenger and Zagęszczanie, and consistently pushing beyond the conventional boundaries of photography. Her distinctive visual language has earned recognition from critics and audiences in Poland and abroad.
She continues to explore new fields of artistic practice and experimentation, with her most recent work focusing on film. In 2013, she directed her first short film, Molehill, starring Andrzej Chyra and Eryk Lubos.
